Memphis Grizzlies Getting Inside

The Grizzlies head to Oklahoma City to play the Hornets, who stunned Memphis 95-86 in Memphis on Jan. 28. The Hornets have been collapsing lately, but the Hornets' point guards feasted on the Grizzlies in that January game. Chris Paul effectively penetrated the Grizzlies' defense time after time, as did backup point Speedy Claxton. Claxton scored 17 in one quarter versus the Grizzlies, as Paul and Claxton combined for 33 points and 13 assists.

Pau Gasol was quick to adjust when the Utah Jazz double-teamed him in the post. Gasol had 15 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists to just miss a triple-double, and keyed Memphis' third-quarter spurt with five assists to help the Grizzlies to a 90-84 victory over the Jazz on Sunday. "We were trying to give a little help on Gasol, and when you do that, something else has to give a little," Jazz coach...

Nearly 12,000 people had to be evacuated from a Memphis Grizzlies game at the FedEx Forum on Sunday afternoon after a small fire broke out in an elevator shaft, authorities said. It was quickly extinguished and fire officials were venting smoke and preparing to let people re-enter the arena at about 3:20 p.m.

It looked like a mismatch: The turnover-prone New York Knicks against an excellent defensive team in the Memphis Grizzlies. And that's exactly the way it turned out. Pau Gasol scored 36 points, and the Grizzlies used a dominant defensive effort to pull away early and beat the Knicks 91-75 Friday night for their sixth straight victory.

The Memphis Grizzlies got an important win for their playoff hopes -- not that they're ready to talk about them. Eddie Jones scored 23 points, reserve Mike Miller added 21 points and 14 rebounds, and the Grizzlies beat the Los Angeles Clippers 95-85 on Thursday night. Memphis moved within a half-game of the fifth-place Clippers in the Western Conference, but discussing possible playoff pairings was...

The Memphis Grizzlies had to wait before extending their longest winning streak of the season to seven games. Pau Gasol had 33 points and 15 rebounds and reserve Mike Miller added 20 points to lead the Grizzlies over the Charlotte Bobcats 102-95 Sunday. Lorenzen Wright contributed 13 points and seven rebounds for the Grizzlies, whose win streak is one short of the franchise record.

With another last-second basket, Ray Allen ended the Grizzlies' winning streak and ruined Pau Gasol's big night. Allen made an off-balance 19-footer with 0.3 seconds left, and the Seattle SuperSonics overcame Gasol's franchise-record 44 points to beat the Memphis Grizzlies 98-97 on Tuesday night. Allen's 3-pointer with 5.4 seconds left on Sunday gave Seattle the lead and helped the SuperSonics...

Richard Jefferson had a message that should provide some comfort for the New Jersey Nets' remaining opponents this season. "We will lose a game," the Nets forward conceded Wednesday night. "Things can change in one quarter, or in five minutes." Jefferson scored 27 points to help the Nets beat the weary Memphis Grizzlies 86-74 and tie a season high with their 10th straight win.
